Hike 39
Sept 17, 2013
I started this hike on Stewart Trail at Five Brooks Trailhead. It is more of a road than a trail, which makes sense, since it gets a lot of horse traffic from the stables.
At .7 miles I turned onto Greenpicker Trail. I was happy to get away from the loud chatter of exuberant horse-riders. The quiet green took me in and led me gradually to Firtop.
I faced-off with a grey squirrel. He clung to the vertical surface of the tree. Hopping forward every few seconds, he jabbered with renewed emphasis. Scolded, I moved-on.
Trees configured as dream-catchers for Gaia.
At Fir Top, I once again reached Stewart Trail. It was 4.1 miles down the road to Five Brooks.
I found a puffball mushroom laying like a golf ball in the dirt. It appeared rootless, but made the tiniest pop when I lifted it from the ground.
I moved off the trail to let a pair of horses pass. It was a chance to appreciate the view of the valley below.
I watched the horses move down the trail, glad they were taking their noisy humans with them. I am a noisy human sometimes, too, just not today.
Douglas fir bark was distinctively thick and chunky, interesting wallpaper.
At Five Brooks Trailhead, white clouds danced in blue sky above green treetops.
I took off my shoes, stretched my tired, dirty feet to the sky and ate an apple.
Blessed perfection!
